Can i create an active text in a excel program which links to another excel workbook as in a hyperlink on the net except its just an indexing system for a group of workbooks contained in a folder

You can do hyperlinks to other workbooks, not a problem. Choose the cell then press CTRL+H. You need to type in the file path name, then the name you want the cell to display. The easier way to do it is to press the little fx symbol that gives you a list of all the formulas on your toolbar near the top of the screen. This takes you through step by step

That was my fault, CTRL+H was wrong got mixed up, sorry!

Right, look at the second toolbar down on your Excel page. Look for the sort icons, they're like a little A and a Z with an arrow next to them. On the left of those is a little button with an italic f and a tiny * on it. Press that

This gives you a list of all the formulas. So choose ALL from the dropdown on the left and then find Hyperlink and follow the instructions.

It basically works as follows:

Type =HYPERLINK(File path name,Friendly Name)

The file path name is the route to the file that you want to open for instance:

A:NewsUpdateToday

Whilst the friendly name is the name you want to appear in the cell, so you might want:

"Today's News" to appear
