Does anyone know how to use a formula based on information that has been filtered as to not include the "filtered out" information?

SUBTOTAL works on filtered info, though more info would be helpful.

I need to find the median and average for a column based on information in the column next to it. I filter the info based on column A but the formula includes all the info in B rather than just the filtered lines.
