When I open a file (not that I think it matters, but it is named Simcoe0203.xls) I always end up with two copies of the same file open. (named Simcoe0203.xls:1 and Simcoe0203.xls:2) Anything I change in either copy also changes in the other, and when I exit Excel, I am only prompted to save the copy of the file I am working in. Any ideas, or is this just a gremlin?

I can tell you what it is but don't know what is causing it.
Check Menu, Window and you should see both copies listed. Close one of the files and the other should stay open. Now save that file and close it. Now reopen the file - you should only have one version of the file open. |

What you have here are multiple windows.
To duplicate the problem: Open a new workbook Select Window | New Window (You now see the Name:1 and Name:2 format) Save the Workbook Now when you reopen the workbook, both windows show up. To fix this problem: Open the workbook. Close one of the windows. Save the workbook. I had this happen a while back and pulled out a lot of hair trying to figure it out. Not sure why anyone would even want this functinality. K |

Why anyone would want two windows open?
When you have a very large and complicated workbook, it sometimes helps to be able to see two different sheets at the same time. You just have to remember to close one of the windows before you same the file. |
