I've searched the archives but can't find an answer to this question. Does anyone know if there's a built in feature to be able to format header or footer text with color fonts? or background color? or images?
Thanks, K Moore [ This Message was edited by: cc_kmoore on 2002-05-03 21:07 ] |

File-PageSetUp-Header/Footer-Custom
Both the custom header and custom footer are limited but if you click the photo icon on the custom menu you can give the location of the picture to put in the header/footer in XP. I do not remember if the photo option is in 97 or 2000? JSW |

Hi Joe,
I read a previous post from from you relating to the speed test of 97 vs. Xp. You responded explaning that (overhead) Xp was doing a lot more so it seemed to be slower, remember your ans. to the post? Are you happy w/ XP? I am just curious to hear from a pro. James |

You have can have more control of the headers with VBA, but don't know about colors.

I use 2000 and XP. I like XP better, the help is better. The "Speak" tools are a step in the right direction. What missing though is a tool to code or create a function by example! You still need to know way too much syntax!
With PC's having more power and speed than mainframes of just a few years ago, I am still disappointed in the lack of artificial intelligence engines in applications. When XP finds an error in your function the auto-correct in XP is about the same as 2000, both are primitive. More can be done to improve on this now. When coding tools like "C" programing almost killed "Basic" programing, faster more powerfull PC's brought "Basic" back to life. Now PC's are even more powerfull and VBA code that was dirty, slow and full of primitive routines in 97, can run in 2000 and XP so fast, you don't need to refine your code along the "computer economics" methods essential just a few years ago. So the benefits of XP now is in part due to the faster more powerfull PC's. XP is great but it could be better with todays and tomorrows PC's. I would also like to see a function library that works like "Spell-Check." That is, we should be able to add functions like we add words to a dictionary rather than the convoluted steps needed now. A more open approach to Excel code would improve the product, rather than the closed-fisted MS way. The way MS did the public with DOS was a crime. We waited for each release, only to find few new tools that could have been released years earlier. The whole scam for profit and R&D recovery set the software application and PC development back about ten years. I feel cheated and rightly so as I know what it cost the consumer. With Excel being the best product out, it is good, but it could be better. I see a lot of how DOS was marketed in the Excel releases and that saddens me. JSW P.S. Almost forgot the most important missing item, a "packager." I would like to be able to put Excel developed applications on CD's and distribute them to users who do not have Excel or the current version. Like the "run-time" builders for database applications, come on MS already! [ This Message was edited by: Joe Was on 2002-05-03 23:14 ] [ This Message was edited by: Joe Was on 2002-05-14 06:16 ] |

Thanks for the replies. No color in headers/footers and graphics only if using Office XP. This is what I told colleagues, but it just didn't seem possible that full text formatting of headers/footers is still not available.
Excellent assistance with my first trial post. I'll be back ! K Moore |
