negative time formula

i am trying to get a negative time formula but cannot achieve it

for example
column a b c
10:00 - 12:00 = -2:00(red )

any help please would be appreciated

What was significant about January 2nd 1904 to make it an alternative date system ?

It has to do with backward compatability with previous systems. The 1904 system was designed to be compliant with MAC systems.
Dates before 1904 were not supported on MAC systems. I believe MAC wanted to avoid the fact that there is a missed leap year previous to 1904 i.e. 1900.

That's right. & Excel was written first for Mac and the programmers avoided that Lotus 1-2-3 date glitch.
