Changing defaults

Is is possible to change the default numeric format in excel and if so how.

Yes, it is possible to change the default numeric format. The default formats are not set in Excel, they are set in the regional settings in Windows. So, if you change the regional settings in Windows, you will change the formats in Excel as well.

You can also do this in Excel using styles. Locate your XLStartupfolder. If there is not a file named book.xlt there, create one. Then open this template as a Template. Choose Format, Styles. You will see a style called Normal. Select Modify and make any changes you wish. Click OK and resave the template. Now Excel will use the Normal Style in this template as the default for new workbooks
