adding positive numbers in a column of positives and negativ

I have a column of positive and negative numbers. I would lik eto summate only the positive numbers and ignore the negative numbers . Is it possible with excel?

Let us say your numbers arte in column A, then use

=SUMIF(A:A,">0")

eg: a1:a4 = -1,2,-3,4

I only want to summate the positives giving a total of 6. I have tried a:a>"0", it does not work.

Hi SKY:
You have perhaps entered the formula incorrectly. Please reenter the formula as:

=SUMIF(A:A,">0")
or
=SUMIF(A1:A4,">0")

and with your entries the result should be 6
