i have a user name and password for oracle.

now i want to connect to oracle from excel.

what are the steps to get connected.

i tried to connect from /data/external data/new database query/
and tried to create a new data source
and selected microsoft odbc driver for oracle. and gave my user name,password but it is showing ...connecting to database...but it is never ending

To access Oracle data from within Excel:

Select Get External data -> Create New Query... from the Data menu.
Select maindb from the list of Databases and click on OK
Enter your User Name and Oracle password
Select the table name you wish to retrieve data from and fields within the table, then click Next...
Fill in the remaining information as you wish and finally click on Finish.
Enter the range of cells where you want the data to appear.
