Excel crashes

Recently my Excel 2000 started crashing my system every time I try to start Excel either from the Excel icon or by double clicking an Excel file. Word 2000, PP, Access all work fine. I have uninstalled Office 2000 then reinstalled with change to Excel. I even reinstalled Windows 98 SE with no change. I had to install Excel 97 so I could continue to use my spreadsheets, but I would like to restore Excel 2000.
