Need formula for First or Last

I am working on a file where I will have multiple columns, one for
each month's data. I want to put a summary box at the top that will
give me the total for the most current month posted. I can do a 'Max'
to put the most current date there, but of course 'Max' won't work for
the summed value associated with the date. Any suggestions??

Please give more detail into your request, some sample data and ranges might help.

Select an empty cell, type =, select 10 rows of the first 4 column starting from the start row of your data (inncluding labels), hit F9, Edit|Copy what you see, and post it in the follow up.

The above is meant to obtain info about the layout of your data.
