Hello,
One of my users has a macro problem. She has a couple macro's in the personal macro folder. Now every time she saves a new workbook Excel 2K adds a macro to it, and when she opens it up it now has a macro which she disables every time. For her it is become a problem. Help |

Has she tried deleting them from the personal.xls workbook?
(I'm assuming that she doesn't actually want to use these macros ever) |

What does this macro do? It doesn't add anything to the workbook in terms of VBA does?
Is the macro definitely included with the workbook and not just located in personal.xls on her machine? i.e. if she saves that workbook and sends it to someone on a completely different PC, is the macro in that workbook? |

The macro could be in the template that is used to create each new workbook. Have her check her sheet.xlt and book.xlt files. It wouldn't hurt to check for any sheet.xls or book.xls files either.
If the macro is not attaching to existing files, then I would suspect it is one of the files I mentioned. |

Be careful -- there are several Excel macro viruses that work this way: copying themselves into new sheets. Those I've encountered have been nuisances rather than threats, but since VBA can do so much potential damage, I'd be careful about spreading it to other machines. Keep "disabling" until you're sure.
Check for hidden files (Window/Unhide). Check the names and code of all macros in her personal workbook -- make sure everything there is SUPPOSED to be there. Check in VB Editor for new modules. I don't know offhand of a good website reference for macro viruses (as opposed to viruses in general) -- does anyone else know of any? Hoping your problem's innocuous.... Cath |
