Save the chart format as a user-defined chart type. Create a on the "other" using its data and apply the user-defined chart-type.

Here is a message I posted to the Mr Excel Forum on an infamous date. Not surprisingly, it didn't receive a response.
Posted by Andrew Watson on September 11, 2001 at 06:38:34: I have a spreadsheet with data, formulae and a large number of charts based on the figures generated by the formulae on Sheet1. I now want to copy all the formulae and charts to process the data on a large number of sheets. The formulae copy in a relative fashion but the charts are absolute, ie the charts on Sheet2 point to the formulae on Sheet1. Is there a way to: 1. copy the charts in a relative way; or 2. easily search and replace the references to Sheet1 to Sheet2 in the Source Data for the charts. I have tried removing the sheet reference and the absolute $ signs in the Source Data without success. I have tried using range names to define the data ranges and then changing the where those names point. It works but I can't see a way to use this technique with a large number of charts. The only way I can see how to do it is to save the first worksheet under a series of different names and copy in each block of data. Then I can copy from Sheet1 of Worksheet2 to Sheet2 of Worksheet1 and so on to build the required multisheet workbook. I just wonder if there is a direct way to do this within one workbook. ------ It turns out that the method I originally posted is slightly wrong. Set up your data, formulae and chart(s) in File1. Save it as File2. Have File1 and File2 open. Hightlight the data, formulae and chart(s) in File2 and Cut. Go to the required position in File1 and Paste. If you need more copies, re-open File2 and repeat the process. I hope this is of some help. It's 5 days since you asked so the need has probably passed. Andrew Watson |
