hi,
With out donwloading a add-on is there any VB or option is Excell 2000 to protect a cell with a password. Basically i want the user to be able to change only 4 cells on the sheet and no others so my idea is protect every cell except the ones they can use. There there any easier way you can think of? Thanks Mike [ This Message was edited by: dirty_cofi on 2002-05-18 13:49 ] |

Hello there
here are the steps you have to take 1. select the cells that may be changed 2.select format->cells and click on the protection tab of the format cells dialog 3.in the protections tab , remove the check from the locked checkbox 4.click ok to close the format dialog box 5. select tools->protection->protect sheet 6.in the protect sheet dialog choose a password if you want , and click ok. May be there is a way doing this with vba ,but i am not so good at this yet. Hope that help

Hi Mike,
I'm still on Excel97 I'm afraid. Anyway, in case it's the same, what I would do is right-click on each of the four cells and then select 'Format Cells' from the list and go to the 'Protection' tab. Untick the 'Locked' box and click 'OK'. Then go to 'Tools, Protection, Protect Sheet (Password is optional) and click OK. Your users will now only be able to access the four unprotected cells. Hope that helps. Richie |
