Counting a particular day in a list of dates

I cannot for the life of me get
SUMPRODUCT(--(WEEKDAY(A2:A28)=6))
to work. I need a formula to count the number of fridays that apear in the lost. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
There will also be empty cells in this range.

The formula is correct. What is the problem that you have with it?
