I need to create a combination stacked bar and line chart. I looked in the custom charts, but only found one that lets me do a simple bar chart-line chart combo. Anyone know how to do this? Also, how do I specify which data is to appear in the bars and which is to appear in the line format?

Good Question. I would also be interested in getting the answer to this!

Use the Wizard and go all the way using the stacked bar chart. So you now have a chart with 3 results stacked. Say for Sales1 Sales2 and a TotalSales plan for the two of them together.
After the chart is made just click on the one section of a column you want changed so all the sections are highlighted (say TotalSales). Then right click to bring up the shortcut menu to to see "Chart Type" and select Line. You now have 2 stacks for your two sales areas and a line showing the plan for both of them together.
You can use this at anytime to change any chart series. You can also save this as a new custom chart.

Can the line series be tied to a second Y axis without losing the stacked column type for the other series?

You will loose the stacked type when moving a serie to secondary axis, but you can change it back by right clicking on one of the series remaining on primary axis and change chart type to stacked.

Have a look at Jon Peltier’s site. You may pick up a few clues.
