I saw a cool spreadsheet which showed an animation of numbers which looked like a man walking along. Anyone know how you could this? I tried conditional formatting and looped functions but to no avail.
Any ideas? Cheerzz |

Hi Dave.
Animation is done with animated graphic files, GIFs. If you check out your search engine for *free animated gifs*, you'll probably find some pretty cool ones for free. Download them and insert them on your spreadsheet (insert-Picture-from file).

get the animated gifs PLUS you will probably need an ocx file to animate these. Have a look @ this site for an Ocx. http://cuinl.tripod.com/downloads/ac...nimatedgif.zip Can't say I have used this much. Other alternatives: Prgm the animation your self. I have some examples if you are interested. |

Ivan, I would be interested, if the price isn't to high. I would just like to kinda play with it, something to occupy my spare time.

I have put animation in a lot of spreadsheets I have developed, I usually get the same reaction,” Wow, how did you do that. I've never seen movement in a spreadsheet."
Animated gif's work but they can bulk up the file size, and they can be choppy or slow. I use Macromedia Flash. It keeps the file size very low. For instance the file size of a movie with a few dozen words with all the animation bells and whistles is around 5k. Also as long as that users browser has the flash plug-in installed (Win2K & WinXP have it by default), which they usually do, the movie will play in Excel. If you are worried about price you can download a trial version from Morpheos. And just an FYI- You can use Flash as a front end for an Access database, damn cool for comanies that have a database on an intranet. [ This Message was edited by: Q on 2002-05-22 05:50 ] |

Hi RogerC.
funny you should mention Flash in Excel - I was just discussing that with someone via email today. I - and a few others here - have been working with this technology for a while and the results are stiking! Considerations for this are: The end user must have a player for the media and if you want to develop your own, custom Flash Splash screens you need to have Flash or pay someone to do it for you. Generally, nice Flash swf files are not easy to find and you really have to look to find them. I am fortunate to have Flash so, I am able to work directly with it. I pulled your email from the member profile page - check your mailbox tomorrow for an email from Viper . . .I will send you a sample of a working Flash film on a userform. Regards, ViperGTS |
