How to use an IF statement with more than two parameters.

I have a timesheet that takes the total hours per day and sperates that entry into regular time and overtime hours.I need a way to pull out any hours in excess of 8 hours per day and in excess of 40 per week. Using IF(hours>8,...is alright, but I'm having trouble with combining that with the requirement for the 40 hour weekly maximum.

something like:

if(hours>8,if(sumhours>40,residual,0),0)

or if you put in your setup, a more exact answer can be given
