hi i am trying to use excel to show my students grades, and in the last cell i want a resit code, with CW if they need to resit the coursework, EX if they need to resit the exam, and Ce if they need to resit them all. i want this to appear all in the same cell, the other cells are coursework % exam % overall % . they need to get 45% to pass.

i hope you can help quickly, i need this soon for my students!!!

i had tried =IF(H6<45,"CR",IF(F6<45,"EX",IF(F6<45,"CW",""))) but it only shows the code on the people who have failed the exam, is there a fundemental difference i am missing?

you have:

=IF(H6<45,"CR",IF(F6<45,"EX",IF(F6<45,"CW","")))

as against:
=IF(H6<45,"CR",IF(F6<45,"EX",IF(F6<45,"CW","PASS")))

in the latter, the default value is "pass". in yours, it is blank.

ah, sorry, think I misunderstood. you were saying that it doesn't show CW for those that passed the exam and overall, but failed the coursework? afraid i can't see why it wouldn't work.
