We are on a Novell network using Windows 2000 pro desktops. Some departments have upgraded to Office 2000 (the rest still use 97). Those using Office 2000 have a strange problem when using Excel
When users open an excel document and click on the FLOPPY DISK icon in the toolbar to save, go to print preview by clicking on the print preview icon, click CLOSE, excel will close down and you get the excel.exe application error. You can also click Zoom before clicking close and the formatting gets really strange. It does not seem to be document specific because it is happening to multiple users in different departments that are all working with different files. As far as printers go we have an HP4550, 8150, Aficio 650 and Aficio 550. I have put users on the 4550, 8150, 550, and 650 and in every situation they have gotten the error even when it is the only printer installed. Does anyone have any ideas? suggest first call is to reboot (cold boot better leave off for two minutes)
try again or if fails try on another PC the same file from network,, we can work from there

Hey,
I think you're on the right track with checking out the network printers. Excel's Print Preview is tied into the system's default printer. Have you tried simply removing all printers and then reinstalling the default printer? You may want to test a bit and add a local printer (real or phantom) as default to see if the problem is related to the network. Adam |
