i whant to create a pivot table from a sheet that has 5 colums and 39442 rows and get this error" a field in your source data has more items than can be used in a pivot table. microsoft excel may not be able to create the pivot table, or may create the pivot table without the data from this field". PLEASE help me

The maximum number of "items" that a PivotTable can have is 8,000. To understand what an item is look at the Excel Help topic for "Parts of a PivotTable". Item examples are shown in yellow. So let's say that one of your PivotTable fields consists of 8,001 unique date values and you wanted to display them all. That would exceed this limit.

I did work with worksheets that have a lot more than 8000 items with no problem. On Friday I made a Pivot Table with 25000 and had no problem. I selected the first 25000 rows of this file as the range and had no problem. I'm using Excel 97 SR1

You are right the first 25000 rows had less than 8000 unique items

I s there a wau to measure the number of unique items in a database that will result in a limit with a pivot table? i am running into this problem and my database has 10000 cells but I don't know the number of unique items.

I have a file nos.5 and 22 which can help you to extract unique values.

I hope this can help you to extract unique value.

And thank you board.. i came to know that pivotal table takes 8000 unique values only.
