Our July 2002 Challenge is simple: Name the XL Guy.

Our new logo was designed by Cecilia Sveda of Minx Design Studios in Akron, Ohio. Conveying both speed and excitement about Excel, the center piece of the logo is the running guy made out of an "X" and a couple of "L" feet. This guy now graces everything - stationary, business cards, the web site, the deluxe can koozies, the t-shirts.
But, he does not have a name. In our Akron Corporate Office, he is simply known as the "XL Guy". In our Philadelphia Project Management Office, he is known as "Bubba". With a name like "Bubba", I think you can tell that the Philly office didn't write the check to pay for the logo!
The July contest is to name the XL Guy. Send your ideas to or post them in the Lounge. The ultimate winner will receive our soon-to-be-released Message Board CD. Deadline for entries is July 26, 2002.
During the month of July 2002, we asked readers to send in possible names for the logo. 125 entries were received and I loved every one of them. Thanks to everyone who entered. Our esteemed celebrity panel of judges was asked to submit their favorites from this list of 125.

The winning name is Max Cell, chosen by reader vote. I am officially declaring this a four-way tie, as IOANNIS, Mark O'Brien, _Denis_, and Wade Hilt all suggested some variant of this name.
