Past Challenge - Where Do You Use Excel? Photo Contest
|

The Jan/Feb 2005 Challenge was the "Where do you use Excel?" photo contest. Everyone who entered receives a free book or CD from Holy Macro! Books (ARV $19.95 to $99). Readers can vote for their favorite image, with the winner receiving the One of Each Bundle (ARV $375) from Holy Macro! Books.
With 400 million copies of Excel installed around the world, it is a safe bet that Excel is being used in every industry. Our challenge was to have you submit a photo of where you use Excel. Here are 7 entries.
Vote for your favorite through March 11, 2005.
Based on voting through the deadline, congratulations to Freddy Fuentes. He gets a one of everything bundle from MrExcel. Thanks to everyone who entered. For the other entrants - drop me a note with your choice of CD or book and we will get it right out to you.

Entry 1: Iain's Home Office

Iain (aka Glaswegian) writes: I’m afraid I don’t use Excel in any exotic locations, but thought I would share my main location with you anyway (other than the office which is just TOO boring!). Basically, it’s the smallest room in the house (yes, smaller than the loo!!) and contains, not just the PC, but numerous other bits and pieces that have yet to find a proper home. Now this may not be exotic, or sunny or exciting but it’s mine!
Editor's note...I zoomed in to see which books Iain uses... Bonus points for that book on the right ;-).

Entry 2: Cheakrisna's Office

Chankrisna Chea (aka cheakrisna) submitted this photo from his office. This seems to be the perfect setup to both develop worksheets and to check the MrExcel message board. That is Cindy in the background.

Entry 3: T. P. Suresh screen

T. P. Suresh submitted this screenshot. Interesting to note that the control toolbar is docked with his standard toolbars.

Entry 4: Freddy Fuentes Excel on PDA

Freddy Fuentes submitted this photo of Excel running on two workstations in his office, plus a Dell Axim x50v in landscape mode. Here is a closeup of the PDA:

Entry 5: Jim's Pinewood Derby Tracker

Jim Clevenger designed an Excel spreadsheet to track the cub scout Pinewood Derby pairings. A projector beamed the results on the gymnasium wall for all to see.

Entry 6: Steve's Call for Help

Producer Steve Antal's control room where Call for Help is taped uses Excel for show schedules and the show rundown.

Entry 7: Ron in Maui

Sales guru Ron Martin discusses tracking sales in Excel near the beach in Maui.
