Excel Wiki

I am adding an Excel Wiki to the site. Every Excel user is welcome to add content to the Excel Wiki. You can add your favorite tips, hints on using commands, hints on functions, etc.

A "wiki" is a quick way to create a web page. Anyone is welcome to edit or add to the Excel Wiki. Today's Tip110 contains the 2-minute Wiki 101 information that you need to get started.

Convert PDF to Excel Using Able2Extract

I've written a review of a cool software package called Able2Extract. The software allows you to take any PDF file and quickly convert it to Excel, Word, HTML, or Text.

I tried it out the other day, and this is far superior to using copy & paste from Acrobat. If you ever find yourself needing to do calculations on data trapped in a PDF, check out this review of Able2Extract.

Use a FeedReader Application

You are probably starting to see the little orange "XML" or "RSS" icons on websites everywhere. I've even added a few to MrExcel.com. These icons are for people using a new class of software called a FeedReader. If you haven't discovered the joys of using a FeedReader, you will quickly come to love it. They are cheap or free to get, take just a few minutes to set up, and will allow you to monitor your favorite websites in a couple of minutes per week. Podcasting is the hot new trend that allows anyone to produce their own radio show. I really could not figure out how to teach Excel over the radio. But, as soon as I saw video podcasting, I knew that this would be very cool.

Every weekday, I will make a new 2-minute video tip available. The tip will demonstrate one chapter from the book - Learn Excel from MrExcel. The video tips are free. You can download to your iPod Video unit, or simply watch them on your PC.

Download Web Data Directly Into Excel

Mapping Excel Data with MapPoint

On today's episode of Call for Help, I will show you how to put your data in a map. In the first example, I add a customer list to a map in Excel. Zoom in to the neighborhood around your retail store to find where the customers live.

In the remaining examples, I import data to MapPoint in order to produce a heat map by province and driving directions.

All of these tips require a need for Microsoft MapPoint along with Microsoft Excel.
