Excel data validation list

Is it possible to set the width of a drop down list in Data Validation
to be wider than the column width? The cell to the immediate right will
have another drop-down selection, but will have no entry on the
same row, so the remaining text extends into this cell (which is what I want).
I do not wish to make the column wider because of printing. Is there an easy
formating solution?
