Need to pull data from sheet 3 to populate fields in sheet 1

I have a bank spreadsheet that contains 2 sheets. sheet1 contains data from my daily bank transactions (eg:cash, 1/10/02=$100.00, check#1234, 1/12/02, for cableTV=$50.00, etc). Sheet2 contains running totals for all sheet1 transactions. (Each column on sheet2 exactly mirrors and keeps monthly totals for all sheet1 columns). I use an online banking software that will allow me to print out a transaction report that i use to update sheet1. However, the reports columns do not align with Excel's cell's (eg:"all" data such as date, description, dollar amount, etc will appear on one, long merged line).

I would like to know if there is a formula that would allow Excel to go to my bank transaction report (which i could make sheet3) and retrieve the individual data even though they are contained within long, merged cells? I would like Excel to identify each column name, and the dollar amount associated with it.

Sorry for being so long winded but, i have wanted to ask this questions for a long time.

Thanks,
Tony

Excel's "text to columns" feature might help.
(Go to Data>Text to Columns...)
