Autoformatting dates

I'm having trouble with excel automatically changing my data. I would like to enter "6-24" but it changes it to "24-Jun". How do stop this or at least un-do it for a specific cell?

You are experiencing your workbook's default format in displaying dates. To make the date look the way you want it to, format the cells you want to format by first highlighting those cells, then click on Format > Cells > Number tab > click onto "Date" in the Category pane on the left side of that box, and then select from one of the format options in the "Type" pane on the right side of the box.

Keep in mind that regarding entering "6-24", Excel will think you mean June 24, 2001 (of course you can format that any way you want) because we are in the year 2001 and Excel defaults to the current year when displaying a date that was entered without a year. You will need to enter the year as well (eg 6-24-99) if you are entering a 1999 date.
