Sum up amounts that are linked to a date?

I have two columns of information - one is Date the other is Amount. I want to find a formula that will give me the sum of all amounts that have the date of 2/14/01 (or any other date I specify). Is there any way to do thi? I do not want to simply filter the list, I need the answer to be in a specific cell.
