Conditional formatting - flashing cell

Posted by Edwin Tay on April 27, 2001 6:00 PM

I would like to apply conditional formatting but the effect
to appear when my condition to be fulfilled should be
either or all of the below mentioned

1) Flashing cell for say 5 secs to highlight that cell
has changed, pretty much like a live stock quote
screen

2) Continuos blinking of the cell

3) Playing a sound when the condition is fulfilled

Could someone help me on this. Thanks.

Hi Edwin:

Blinking (flashing) cells (for any duration) and/or playing sounds is not a built-in feature of Excel.

If you search the Postings on mrexcel for those keywords, you may come up with something, I don't know, I didn't try it. Below is a link to Microsoft's tech notes.

Playing sound

Edwin -

It is possible but you'll need a VBA approach. I don't know of a non-VBA one :-(

Go to the XL General archives at:

http://peach.ease.lsoft.com/archives/excel-g.html

and check out the thread "Flashing Cell" dated 10 Jan. 2001. There is also another thread "Blinking cell" in the same archive dated Nov. 15, 2000.
Good luck.

I think there are many different ways (with VBA) to do this and this topic has been covered on this board on a number of occasions. But the Mr Excel Search engine does not seem to be working for the message board, so it's a bit difficult to find them.
Here's one thread that may help :
