Formatting Numbers - Excel 97

I need to align columns of numerical data by their decimal points. The only ways I have found to do it are currency or accounting formats and they won't work in this application. I cannot add extra "zeros" to the ends of my numbers to make them all have the same number of places after the decimal, they all have to remain as they were recorded. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
