3rd time's the charm I hope... need help on vlookup update

Posted by Daniel P. on November 26, 2001 5:55 AM

When opening the workbook, I don't want (1) to be prompted and (2) (DON'T WANT) the links updated.
The links are within vlookup formulas.

(1) I know I can turn off the "ask to update automatic links"

(2) I want to update the links manually but the "Manual" and "Update Now" controls under Edit-Link is grayed out. I've ran through the help menus with no success.

Any suggestions?

Daniel

I'm needed to update the link on command. In other words, keep the reference and re-calculate to update links.

Thanks for the effort though.

Have you ever linked a file by vlookup? (not being a smart@$$) When I open the file, I'm prompted to answer "yes, to update links" or "no, keep existing info." I do not want to update at this time. I do not want to see the dialog box. I can turn the dialog box off by un-checking the "Ask to update automatic links" box, but the links try to update automatically. I don't want this to happen. I do not want the links to update unless I want them to (by recalculating by using F9).

Situation: Other people may open this same file. I don’t want them to update this spreadsheet. I don’t even want them to be prompted. I only want this file updated after the lookup file has been completely updated (could be weeks later). Sorry for the lack of explanation.

Thanks again.
