Dropdown list not working within freeze panes

Hi all,

a minor irritation : I have a drop down list via data validation that drops down from row 6 to row 12

when I freeze panes beneath it, or even below row 12 (say row 20) the drop down doesn't function..... the little button doesn't want to show and the list doesn't appear..

is this something I'm just going to have to live with ?

I had the same problem a while back and could only solve it by moving the freeze position. I think it's a documented 'bug' in Excel, but if anyone does know if there's a solution I'd love to know it, too.
