Entire row turns black when data entered into a cell

I am using Excel 98 on the Mac and am working with a complicated worksheet that has macros. Whenever I enter data in a cell and hit return the entire cell goes black so that I can't read it. Curiosly if I resize the window, all the black garbage goes away and I can read everything perfectly, including the data I just entered in the cell. As you can imagine, I'm a little sick of resizing windows. Please help!

Does this happen if you disable the marcos?

I'm actually not sure how to disable them (you can tell that I didn't create this workbook)

Choose the Tools | Preferences... menu command, and
check the "Macro virus protection" check box on the
General tab. Quit Excel and re-open the workbook.
When prompted do not enable the macro and see what
happens.

When I tried disabling macros it gives me the message "This workbook contains a type of macro (Microsoft Excel Version 4.0) tha cannot be disabled"....

Is the macro hidden? Use the Format | Sheet | Unhide...
menu command to check.

When I do unhide I am able to see a list that appears to be some sort of macros

Make a copy of your workbook, eliminate the macros,
Save and reopen to see if they're the cause of your
problem.
