Help with filename types in "Save As":

First, thanks for this service, it's much appreciated. Now my question: I am entering several hundred spreadsheets that I need to be able to sort in Windows Explorer by either the filename or the extension (file type). I want to use a filename format like "882900201.1590". However, Excel "Save As" only lets me save it with an .xls or other standard extension, giving me "882900201.1590.xls". I don't want to have to go back and edit all 500 filenames to get rid of the ".xls". Is there a way to Save As without adding the .xls extension to the filename?

Why not leave the ".xls" extension? You'll still be able to sort by filename or filetype and the file will still be recognized as an Excel file by Windows.

I don't know why you need this because it WON'T be available to Excel, put a couple of double quotes when you are saving it, like this:

"882900201.1590"

Instead of just

882900201.1590
