Linking xls sheets via a network so that they automatically update each other

I have 2 .xls sheets that cells that reference each others cells on there work book...

e.g.

\\server\sys\[PLANNING.xls]Sheet1'!A1

i would like to get it so that when a change is made on one of the sheets it is automatically made to the other sheet -

both sheets will be open at the same time.

I know that this can be done when i open both sheets locally on the same computerbut i can't get it to do this between 2 computers via the work....

Any suggestion are greatly need / wanted

it's a start..but

you could share the workbooks and keep a copy of each open at both user ends?? not being at work i can't test this but i don't see why not.

if they are the same format etc. just have one and share it

any good??
