Lotus 1-2-3 against Excel

Posted by Daniel C on February 11, 2002 8:50 AM

or my project ive got to see if another spreadsheet package is capable of solving system reqs. I need to know the following:

~Does 1-2-3 have a "goal seek" facility (for single cell changing) like Excel - if so whats it called?
~Does 1-2-3 have functions such as LOOKUP, COUNTIF, INDEX, IF and are they named differently
~Does 1-2-3 have a visual basic for applications editor and macro recorder. If yes whats it called, if no how do you do macros in it.

Thats all for now
Cheers to ne one who answers.

Hi Daniel--

The command functions in Lotus are much as Excel yes called different, i cant recall them but all is different eveb =SUM( is something like %Sum%=( so its a little complex if not used to it.

In the UK Lotus Office 97 is free on many cover mags as CD rom, so can try for nothing, else see Lotus home page.

VBA is Visual Basic for Application to give FULL correct name this is Microsofts own programming language and so NO OTHER S/War can use it.

Lotus is IBM so uses a diff language call IBM ??? whatever and is nothing like VBA but is same ideas the language i never got on with years back so never bothered (i love Excel) but excel rules the world and so i only recoment Excel.

Lotus have no message board which dont help or not that i ever found.

lotus does have more fill colours tabs colours and more columns and one million rows all very nice but.... it still stink i think, but thats my opinion and so dont say never use Lotus.

123 is good fast and powerful - but its a case of what you want to do and where you feel at home, IBM VBA as such your be all alone and thats a down side.

I recoment stay Excel and use this message borad if you get stuck, build friends and help as many people as you can and your lear and develop with the rest of us. As for VBA i promise you some of the worlds finest programmers look at postings in the board and post help all is very goos and all is free.. what more can anyone ask..

Try it - and join in the fun... your love it, as always more you put in the more you get out the only limit is you yourself.
