Is there a way to increase the number of documents displayed in the most recently used list desides tools|options method? Perhaps a change in the registry.

Click Tools and then Options and then the General tab. On this tab, there is a check box that asks you if you want to display the most recently used file list. Right next to that is some arrow up/down buttons that let you select the number of files you want displayed. I think the maximum is 9.
