"?" 2003??

Hi! I'm struggling to get anything with "?" to work in excel 2003 (I know!!) eg, =countif(B5:B11,"?"/a) (I'm trying to calculate half days of work and want to imput as a/p or p/a or a/s etc etc. I'm sure i could do this at home where I have a more updated version of exxcel.

=COUNTIF(B5:B11,"?/a")
