3d scatter diagram

i have been keen to create excel 3d scatter diagrams for some time but have not found this feature available.

recently i discovered unistat have an excel add in ($300) that will do this but i am interested in a free add-in that would also do this?

any suggestions would be most appreciated.

thanks for the reply. his solution is a little over my head, but i think it would suffer from having two axis rather than the three i require.

It has X Y and Z. I don't understand what you mean by saying it has two axes?

in his xyz chart, x represents the label therefore there are only actual 2 data series. i would like 3 data series.

No, that's not the case. There are series for X-coord, Y-coord, and Z-coord ... still don't know what you are talking about?

We should clarify terms. I know it's common practice to call a set of values, such as X values or Y values a "series", but this gets confusing when also talking of a chart "series".

A chart series is a set of points in a chart. It consists of {X values or category labels (depending on chart type)} and Y values.

The list of data sometimes called a series might be better termed values or coordinates, as in "X values" or "Y coordinates".

Thus a chart has a particular number of series, each comprised of its own X values and Y values. This avoids talk of plotting "one series on the X axis and another series on the Y axis", because you are plotting a chart series with the X values on the X axis and the Y values on the Y axis.

Andy's solution takes X, Y, and Z values for a set of points, uses trig to convert these into X'-Y' coordinates, and creates a chart series from these calculated coordinates.
