5/8 of 217,000.00

Please don't laugh. It's been a long time since I have done this stuff. I have q quick question can anyone tell me how to figure out 5/8 of $217,000.00. I want to know how much money 5/8 would be out of 217,000.00. I know that 8/8 is one whole. Still confused ??

Please help me?

If A1 houses $217,000.00, B1 =5/8, then C1:

=A1*B1

=A1*--TEXT(LEFT(B1,FIND("/",B1)-1),"0")/--MID(B1,FIND("/",B1)+1,9^9)

If you don't mind loading morefunc.xll add-in, you can use:
=A1*EVAL(B1)
Where A1 is the value (ex. $217,000.00) and B1 is a text 5/8

Hi Stephen, Ive always found the easiest way is to work it back to 1/? then multiply by the numerator.

1) 1/8th of $217,000 is =217000/8 ... result 27,125
2) So 5/8th must be 5 * 1/8th so =5 * 27125 ... result 135,625
Or all in one formula...
=(217000/8)*5

Basically anytime you see the word of, it means you want to multiply.

e.g.

5/8 of 217000 is 5/8 * 217000

BTW - Multiplying by a fraction is the same as multiplying by the numerator (5 in this case) , then dividing by the denominator (8 in this case).


=217000 * 5 / 8
