6 digit date code in Excel

I am trying to create a 6 digit date code in Excel, but I keep running into a problem with the leading zeros. I am extracting the date from a cell with a standard date in it, but I need to get it into a mmddyy format. So April 7, 2009 would be 040709. Any suggestions how to get those leading zeroes in there without including /'s.
