A little help re: Count Formulas

What I need to do is count how many entries in a column have a cell on their respective row that meets a certain criteria.

Is there something like "sumproduct" but for counting... maybe "countproduct"? Or is it not that simple?

Any help would be much appreciated.
 
What are the criteria and the ranges that must meet them?


I need to know how many cells in column E that have data in which also have a cell on the same row in column G with "Nursery" entered.

=SUMPRODUCT(--($E$2:$E$1000<>""),--($G$2:$G$1000="Nursery"))

You are not allowed indefinite column ranges like E:E...
