I have one column where I from a drop down box can choose one of three things.

To the column next to it I put the quantity.

Now I want to be able to sum up the quantities of each of these three things. How do I do that?

Thanks
/Magnus

Excel Facts

Show numbers in thousands?
Use a custom number format of #,##0,K. Each comma after the final 0 will divide the displayed number by another thousand
Say your "things" are in rows 1 to 10 of column A and one of them is called Widget. This formula will total the Widgets:

=SUMIF(A1:A10,"Widget",B1:B10)
