Absolutely Clueless...

Hi there,

I am trying to create a really basic finances spreadsheet and require a formula for the following. The only way I can describe it is thus...

When C3 = True (I don't know what True could be, perhaps a "Y", how can I make this so?), I need C12 (my monthly remainder) to equal C2-B3.

I'd then need this formula to go all the way through C4-C11 too, all having an effect on C12, i.e. C4=Y then C12=C2-B4 etc...

I know what I have written is possible gobbledegook, but hey, we all gotta start somewhere right??

I looked at tick boxes for this purpose too (instead of "Y"), but my brain farted and I was unconscious for several days. ;)

Any help appreciated!

Format cells as date
Select range and press Ctrl+Shift+3 to format cells as date. (Shift 3 is the # sign which sort of looks like a small calendar).
Please Post your spreadsheet to explain the problem

Welcome to the Board!

For the True/False-Yes/No options you can use Data Validation. Goto Data-->Validation-->Allow-->List-->Source-->True,False or Yes,No. Now you'll have an in-cell drop-down list with those values.

If you want to post a shot of what you have now PM me your e-mail address and I'll send you the board's HTML maker.

OK, I think this might be what you're after:

=SUMIF($B$3:$B$14,"Y",C$3:C$14)
