Access - Copying data from cell to cell

We have a database, with a Main record, in which there are a number of cells, 2 of which have changed slightly in use.
first cell - Activity Type, has been replaced by Maf_description, this is all well and good, the database works fine, however, now I have come to needing to do a report, based on Activity type and distinct count of each activity, and total spend.

for all intents and purposes Activity Type and Maf_description are the same, but currently I need to run 2 reports and merge them in excel, this is a bit of a pain, to someone who knows what they are doing. And I have a number of users asking at different times for up-to-date info.

Is there an easy way to do this?

I have tried grouping on reports and things, but don't get the desired effect.

Any pointers would be appreciated.
Regards.

Maybe it's me or something but you don't seem to have outlined what your problem is.

Could you explain further what you are trying to do?

Mybee it's me - bad day and all that

What i need is a single report that somehow combines the contents of Activity Type and Maf_description, and the sums the distinct count of each, and the total spend on each activity.

for example

Record# Activity Type Maf_description User Cost
1 Direct Marketing jonw 1000
2 Advertising jonw 500
3 Hospitality jonw 1500
4 Brochures jonw 500
5 Pictures jonw 250
6 DB Work jonw 2000
7 Direct Marketing jonw 1000
8 Direct Marketing jonw 2000
9 Advertising jonw 500
10 Pictures jonw 1000
11 Pictures jonw 750
12 Direct Marketing jonw 230

forgive the formatting, basically I want to end up with

Advertising, {no of advertising campaigns} i.e. 2, {total cost for all Advertisi} i.e. 1000
etc
etc

Now to me that sounds simple, but I have been racking my brain trying to get this to work, so I have 2 options, sort the above out somehow in a report, or copy data from Maf_description column in DB to Activity Type or vice-versa. Not sure on the best/easiest way top do this.

Hope that makes sense. fuddled brain don't you know!
Cheers

just noted way this looks, Advertising and Direct Marketing each can appear ion either the Activity Type OR Maf_description column, not as they are displayed above.
