Hi,

We have been using an Access database at work with no problems at all....today we tried to open the database (the file is still showing exactly the same) on opening it opens Access but then nothing happens...there are no error messages to suggest anything it just simply does not open??

Does anyone have any advice on what we can do? I have tried a number of things to rectify it but whatever I try it acts like the file is not there (even though it shows it in windows explorer).

Any help would be so appreciated :O)

Open up Access and create a blank database.

Goto File>Get external data>Import...

Locate the problem file and see if you can import the tables/reports etc.

If you can do so, then close the newly created database and see if that opens normally.

If it does then it could be the original file has become corrupted.

You might be able to repair it if you goto Tools>Database Utilities>Compact and repair... when you open Access on its own.

If I open MS Access and go to Tools > Database Utilities > Compact and Repair .... it lets me navigate to the file but when I choose the file nothing happens and I'm left with a blank access screen.

Likewise if I create a new blank database and go to File > Get External Data > Import Data it lets me navigate to the file but when I select it nothing happens again....?

I hesitate to say so but this sounds serious! Did you have any further luck? There are access recovery specialists you can find on the web - software and/or services. Try using another program to access the file too, if possible, besides your local access application. If/when you recover, be sure to run a thorough set of pc maintenance routines - full virus scan, check disk for errors, defragment, check for updates at Microsoft, and implement a backup strategy. Consider the age of your pc - disks don't last forever.

Hi,
Did you find a solution to this problem? I am having the same problem now. Cant find anything about it. It seems not many people have this problem. Its rare.

I have tried all the tricks mentioned above. None seem to work.
I need to know if there is a solution to this one.

:)
