I'm running around in circles (help, online, etc) trying to find a toolbar solution in Excel 2007

(my previous version was 2000 and I'm just coming back to ms office after a few year hiatus)

I can't find any way to add a custom toolbar or anything to a spreadsheet I just built, which is to have one shortcut button (or link or anything) to invoke a macro, on demand.

Are custom toolbars gone?

I'm building this xls document to be used in Excel 2000.

Appreciate any pointers in advance.

Do you mean "to be used in Excel 2007"?

If so, you can find instructions in Excel's Help under the topic:
Customize the Quick Access Toolbar

Hi JS 411,

Thanks for your reply.

I had already found the information to customize the QAT / quick access toolbar in 2007 and some other information about creating a ribbon add-in or box (which didn't work cause I can't find whatever to click on, as explained to do it in tutorial/...).

The trouble is, the worksheet isn't for myself. It is for a family member with Office 2000 (under XP) with only very basic user experience.

I've created custom toolbars, with custom icons, dialog boxes etc in the nineties, which were used all throughout the office I worked at at the time. Even some neat stuff that would run when you created a new document or were going to save it.

I take it there isn't any backwards compatibility from Excel 2007 to create a simple toolbar & icon, linked to a macro  that can be used in previous versions?????

What happens when I modify my QAT ... and I share the file with my family member???

From what I gather, they don't see a thing ... because the QAT modification is stored on the local machine.

I just have a hard time believing that MS would do away with the functionality of a custom toolbar ???

(venting) Well, that, I still can't believe I'm forced to use the ribbon where stuff now takes two-three clicks & lots of scrolling around left and right  where I used to have additional toolbars with some bells & whistles on my development machine. I knew where the button was. Hover. One click. Done. Not this zig zag multi-click cluster. There's stuff I still can't find!!!
Guess I have to read up & relearn how to use office ... which I used to know from the back of my hand through several versions, from when it first was released till 2000+
Maybe there is a way to get the old interface back????
