I am trying to add a +/- to the top cell of a column. Every time I try it, Excel looks for an equation. I just want to use it as a Gain/loss symbol. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Bill

Welcome to the Mr Excel board!

I assume that you are try to add the symbol to the left of a number?

If so try typing '+ or '- instead of just the + or -

However, doing this will change your number into text which may be a problem if you are then trying to do some calculations with it.

If this does not solve your problem post back with a bit more information about your sheet and what you are trying to do.

Welcome to the Board!

If you're just trying to do it as a column header, like "$ Variance +/-", just preceede the entry with an apostrophe and Excel will ignore it. I.E. '+/-

Hope that helps,

Smitty
