Add time values in Excel

Hi,

Can some one help me.

I need to add up a range of time values to determine the total time taken for a series of eventss.

e.g.

1:43:15 would represent 1 hour, 43 minutes and fifteen seconds
0:10:00 would represent 10 minutes

Total time 1:53.15

If 1:43:15 is in cell A1, and 0:10:00 is in cell A2, then the total in cell A3 could be calculated as =A1+A2

If you think the total hours will be more than 24 then format the cell as [hh]:mm:ss

Can't you just use a simple addition formula like =A1+A2?

Worked for me.

I like the usage of the [] around the hh - I didn't know it would have that effect.

yes, very useful to know that. Not that I sum times very often, but when I do I always need that trick.
