Have column with Emp #, some are 9 digits with first 3 being 000123456
and some are 6 digits without the first 3 zeroes . I want to add 3 zeroes in the beginning to the records that have 6 digits

Emp_No
----------------
000123456
456789
678934
000567834
I want to add leading zeroes to the rows that have only six digits

Adding zeros

Hi,

I've found a few ways of doing this.. the easiest is selecting the column, right clicking, select format cell, then making the number a text. If you are not suming the numbers but using it as a identifier, this works very well. It allows you to add the zeros before your numbers.

Again, you will not be able to sum the numbers but you will be able to count the fields etc.
