Hello,

I have a list of product numbers in column A. Some of them have duplicates, or even triplicates. I need to add "-2" to the end of the product number if it is the second instance of the number, and "-3" if it is the third instance of the number. How would I go about doing this?

Excel Facts

What is =ROMAN(40) in Excel?
The Roman numeral for 40 is XL. Bill "MrExcel" Jelen's 40th book was called MrExcel XL.
how about

with data starting in A1 and going thru A10

in B1 enter
=A1

in B2 enter
=IF(COUNTIF(A2:A$10,A2)<2,A2,A2&"-"&COUNTIF(A2:A$10,A2)) and drag down
